Synopsis

“Using no way as the way; having no limitation as a limitation…”     Bruce Lee

Artist Jolans Fung says: “In 2008, I saw an exhibition marking the 35th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s death.  It featured many photographs, posters, three-dimensional models, etc., and made me think about his movies, the intense look in his eyes and the skillful way he moved his body.

In 2011, I read the newly published book, “Bruce Lee: Artist of Life” (the Chinese version).  I knew that he’d studied philosophy, but thanks to that book I gained a deeper, more three-dimensional

understanding of his concept and theories about the martial arts, his psychology, his poems and the emotional side of his personality.

I have tried to use visual art forms to explore Bruce Lee’s concept of the martial arts: BE WATER, and the philosophy behind his poems.

This exhibition also commemorates the 40th anniversary of his death.”

Jolans Fung graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts in Paris, France, in 1990.  Since then, he has participated in artist-in-residence programmes in Australia and the USA, and his artworks have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Hong Kong, mainland China, France, the USA and Japan.

His works have been shown at the Hong Kong International

Art Fair and have been collected by private collectors, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the Annie Wong Art Foundation and other organisations.
