Synopsis

Russian matryoshkas (nesting dolls) in the hands of experienced Japanese musicians!

The theremin, invented in Russia in 1920, is the earliest electronic instrument controlled without physical contact by the player.  A matryomin is a matryoshka-shaped theremin.

In this theremin concert, Mr. Masami Takeuchi, the foremost theremin player in Japan, will be joined by a matryomin ensemble.  Theremins are very popular in Japan, so in July, 272 players made a GUINNESS World Record attempt by organising a huge matryomin ensemble, and were awarded the first-ever record for “The largest theremin ensemble”.

After the concert, stay for a matryomin workshop, where you and your children will have the opportunity to learn some of the basic techniques for playing the matryomin.
