Synopsis

The Christmas season is celebrated in different ways around the world. In Australia, Christmas comes in the middle of the summer holidays! Australia is filled with blue skies and sunshine and intense heat. Many Australians spend their Christmas outdoors at a beach or camping. Christmas Dinner may be a barbeque in the backyard or a picnic on a beach or in a park.

With this in mind, the Australian Consulate-General invited Primary 1 to Secondary 6 students in Hong Kong to enter its “My Australian Christmas Card Competition”. Young artists are encouraged to start their own cultural exploration of how they might celebrate Christmas in an Australian summer.

This competition also aims to promote thought among young students about cultural traditions, as well as foster friendship between Australia and Hong Kong.  The artwork can be hand-drawn or computer designed. Students entered in one of four categories: Junior Primary (primary 1 to 3); Senior Primary (primary 4 to 6); Junior Secondary (secondary 1 to 3) and Senior Secondary (secondary 4 to 6).

Four winning designs are used as the official Christmas greetings of the Australian Consulate-General Hong Kong and one of which his selected as the Consul-General’s personal Christmas greeting.  In addition, winning entries and selected other works are exhibited for public viewing at Hong Kong Fringe Club from 15 to 29 December 2017.
