Synopsis

Get ready for a taste of Australia’s largest comedy festival! The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow returns for another year, full of fantastically funny artists from Australia’s biggest and best-loved comedy festival. With stand-up, sketch and satire, this side-splitting mega-show is the highlight of the comedy calendar not to be missed. Featuring a diverse and dynamic line-up of performers hand-picked by the Melbourne Comedy Festival, you know you’re in for a night of exceptional entertainment. All aboard the Roadshow!

This year’s line-up includes the Aus/NZ’s bright and bubbly Cal Wilson; charismatic ‘true blue Aussie’ Nick Cody; the fearlessly funny Nikki Britton, Indian rising star Rahul Subramanian and Sri Lankan born, Aussie-loved Dilruk Jayasinha.

Cal Wilson

Cal Wilson came across the Tasman from New Zealand in 2003 and has gone on to become one of Australia’s most popular comedians, a perennial favourite on television shows such as Have You Been Paying Attention?, Spicks and Specks, Good News Week and Thank God You’re Here. Her stand up shows are as engaging as they are hilarious, often bringing the audience’s stories to life alongside her own. Cal earned herself a seat in one of Australia’s most sought after writers rooms at the ABC for The Weekly with Charlie Pickering where she returned for its first two seasons until she landed one of her dream jobs as an ensemble cast member in Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia alongside some of the country’s brightest improvisers.

Nick Cody
At only 30 years of age, Nick has already headlined comedy clubs all over the globe, made his US late night television debut on Conan, performed at the invite-only Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, appeared on a bunch of televised Comedy Galas at home in Australia and played to packed houses around the world on his solo stand-up tours. Nick has also toured extensively around Australia & Asia on the Melbourne Comedy Festival Roadshow and Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase tours.

He has also been handpicked to support some of the biggest names in comedy, including superstars Jim Jefferies, Bill Burr & Anthony Jeselnik.

Dilruk Jayasinha
After moving to Australia on his own from Sri Lanka at the age of 19, Dilruk was well on his way toward making his parents proud by making good use of his finance and accounting degree. However, in 2009 he was unceremoniously fired by one of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms.

Just as Dilruk had, his managers noted that he had absolutely no interest in being a full-time accountant. Dil then promptly jumped up for his first gig in September 2010 and hasn’t looked back since.

On top of being invited to perform all over the country, Dil has also toured internationally with headline spots in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Singapore. He’s performed at seven Melbourne International Comedy Festivals including sold-out smash hit shows in 2017 and 2018.

Rahul Subramanian
Mumbai-bred Tamil rising star Rahul Subramanian started out with an MBA, before jumping ship and tackling open-mic comedy nights as a New Year’s resolution. His goofy and funny guy stage persona has won him favour with judges, taking out the Pajama Fest, Canvas Club and East India Comedy Virgin Pants open mic competitions. Much to his own surprise, he managed all this without bribing the judges. Rahul made his Melbourne International Comedy Festival debut earlier in 2018, delighting audiences with his hit solo hour, as well as part of the prestigious Indian Allstar Comedy Showcase.

Gillian Cosgriff

Award-winning musical comedian Gillian Cosgriff has been writing songs for 10 years – four solo shows, 25 festival seasons and that one time Pharrell Williams said she was amazing. (Seriously, you can google it.) She’s played to sold-out crowds and she’s played to six people. She’s played for miners, hipsters, children, and once she played the piano at a dinner for the World Scouts Foundation where the guest of honour was the King of Sweden. (That sounds like a cheese dream but it actually happened.)

She returns to Melbourne International Comedy Festival to play her favourite original songs from this varied career and rework some old songs in exciting new ways.
