Synopsis

Contemporary Dance Festival #DANCELESS complex 2023 organized by Unlock Dancing Plaza will present the world premiere of commissioned work The Survival Guide: Between a dog, a wolf and a tardigrade by Albert Garcia, a rising Filipino contemporary performing artist born in Macau, after two years of creation and work-in-progress showcases. The world premiere will be held at 8 pm on September 30, 2023, and at 3 pm and 8 pm on October 1, 2023, at the Jockey Club Studio Theatre of Fringe Club in Central. There will be post-performance talks hosted by artist HoloK Chen and Para Site curator Celia Ho.

Situation creates survival, and survival determines situation. As a descendant of Filipino migrant workers, Albert Garcia was born and raised in Macau, and later studied for Master of Fine Arts in dance performance in Taipei, living and traveling between the two sides. Identity has always been the core theme of his creation. Through the states of three animals: dog, wolf, and tardigrade, in different environments, he connects his own life and work experiences to show the audience a challenging and unstable survival situation. Using flexible body language, he portrays the difficulties and disadvantages encountered by humans, especially marginalized groups, in contemporary life and the era of globalization, such as identity, belonging, immigration, labor, and politics.
