Synopsis

From New York to New Zealand, TROPFEST, the world’s largest short film festival, is a short-film phenomenon that has taken the globe by storm. Since its birth in a small Sydney café over 20 years ago, Tropfest has been dedicated to harnessing the power of cinematic storytelling into just 7-minute creations and breeding a fresh crowd of talented filmmakers across the world.

The well-established short film competition has such notable alumni as Sam Worthington (Avatar) and Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Zero Dark Thirty), and the festival has garnered a global fanbase of film enthusiasts that includes Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Hugh Jackman.

25 January 2014 saw the inauguration of the very first Asian edition of the festival in Tropfest Southeast Asia hosted in Penang, Malaysia. Spreading the spirit of storytelling across the region, this first edition of the festival brought thousands of film lovers together in a spectacular series of film events that placed Southeast Asia proudly amidst the next generation of film industry heavyweights.
