About Roadshow

For nearly twenty years the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow has home delivered the best of the Festival to towns and cities across Australia.  For three months of touring comedy madness, the Roadshow crew travels to over 80 regional destinations, bringing laughs to all corners of the great brown land!

And the party doesn’t stop there, the Roadshow then takes to the sky for the Asian leg, showcasing the best in Aussie comedy to audiences in Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

It’s silly, it’s satirical, it’s side-splitting. It’s Australia’s ultimate comedy roadtrip!

Ivan Aristguieta

WINNER 2014 Adelaide Comedian of the Year

WINNER 2014 Dave Grant Comedy Award

Ivan and his wife migrated from Venezuela to Adelaide in 2012.

Soon after arriving, Ivan took up the challenge of performing comedy in a second language, and after six months he’d collected his first comedy award and was chosen to perform in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Comedy Zone and Roadshow.

After a sold-out 2014 Melbourne season, the UK’s pre-eminent comedy guide, Chortle, enthused: “Give this man citizenship... he’s sure to have more to contribute to the Australian comedy scene.”

Ivan has now toured for two consecutive years with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow and the Sydney International Comedy Festival Showcase Tour, as well as absolutely killing it this year at Just for Laughs at the Sydney Opera House.

Ivan now happily calls Australia home and has established himself as Australia’s favourite Venezuelan comedian, relishing the chance to perform in his second language, English. He has gathered a mass of fans for his trademark cheerful and naïve rejoicing in the troubles and joys of a land that is girt by tomato sauce.

”It’s extremely refreshing to hear a different take on antipodean culture, one that equally highlights the positives while still being able to poke fun at this nation’s wackier inconsistencies.” ★★★★ Herald Sun

“His storylines are funny, his observations are astute and his call-‐backs are brilliant and well-‐timed.” ★★★★ Beat

”Once you understand he was also a stand-‐up comic back home in Venezuela, you can truly appreciate his talent for keeping the funnies rolling in whatever language he choose… Brilliant show.” ★★★★Herald Sun

“As refreshing a show that you’ll see.” The AU Review

“On the night every single one of us walked out feeling a lot better about life.” Perth Lifestyle Blogger

Phil Wang

Phil Wang is rapidly making a name for himself both in the UK and internationally with clever lines and a trademark laid-back style. The show was a phenomenal success, completely selling out and being nominated for the prestigious Foster’s Newcomer Award. As well as two previous solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, Phil has also performed stand-up at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival and at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2015.

In 2015 Phil performed on The John Bishop Show (BBC1) and Russel Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), and appeared as a regular character in BBC3’s acclaimed new sitcom Top Coppers. Mel Buttle

Mel Buttle is a hilarious bundle of contradictions, and she’s a package rapidly making herself felt in all mediums, right across Australia.

In 2010, with her first-ever solo show, Mel was the talk of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, even scoring a nomination for Best Newcomer.  Since then, Mel has taken her comedy all over Australia, appearing at all of the major comedy festivals, visiting the regions on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, and supporting the likes of Steven K Amos, Wil Anderson, Aziz Ansari and Josh Thomas on tour.

In 2012 she won the Sydney Fringe Festival’s Best Comedy Award for her show Mel Buttle, Stop It You Are!, and in 2013 she picked up the Directors’ Choice Award in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for How Embarassment.

Meanwhile, Mel’s fans follow her embarrassed misadventures through modern life on her hit Twitter feed, which boasts over 12,500 followers.

“Buttle has the right mix of confidence and vulnerability to get the audience on side and the material to keep them there … there is something about Buttle that brings a young Judith Lucy to mind. It would come as no surprise if she was just as successful.” The Courier Mail

“With the confidence, presence and sarcasm of a young Kitty Flanagan, Buttle had the audience eating out of her hand with some hilariously wrong stories…” The West Australian

“Searingly honest wisecracker” and “Her potent and polished debut promises comedy greatness” Sydney Morning Herald

“Gifted of rare talent” The Age
