Presented by the Fringe Club as one of the programmes of “Jazz-Go-Central, Jazz-Go-Fringe” project, JazzSpeak is the training programme of the Jazz Youth Internship Scheme Phase I.  The talk will be opened to the public as well. 

JazzSpeak Vol. 4 to 6 will be hosted by Dr. Wong Chi-chung. Topics include concert curatorship, music marketing and music education, with guest speakers invited in the 2nd half of each talk focusing on the “Jazz” part.

Guest Speaker: 

Teriver Cheung is an internationally touring guitarist and composer. Originally born in Hong Kong, his early exposure to classical music has contributed to his future style of composing as well as playing.  He studied with Fred Hamilton at the University of North Texas with a scholarship and received Bachelors of Jazz Studies in 2004.  In 2009, Cheung relocated to New York and has since played an active role in the jazz scene.

In 2015, Cheung returned to Hong Kong.  Since then, he has collaborated with numerous musicians, composers and art groups in Hong Kong.  Most recent projects include: “Departure” presented with Chok Kerong together in 2018.  It is a full length concert featuring the premiere of their new Jazz chamber works under the Jazz Up Series.  He also curated a 3 day guided concert “Jazz Re-visit”at the Hong Kong Cultural centre during April 19-21 2018, as well as participating the LCSD Jazz Marathon Concert at the Queens Elizabeth Stadium as performer.

Cheung is currently a guest lecturer for the Education University of Hong Kong. He had also taught music workshops and clinics worldwide at UCSI University, Silpakorn University, Sing Jazz Academy (as part of the Singapore Jazz Festival) to name a few.

Guest Speaker:

Drummer born and raised in Hong Kong, Anna graduated from the Berklee College of Music.  She was twice awarded the Berklee Achievements-Based Scholarship in 2008 and was touring and featured in the Focus Day Concert in PASIC with the Berklee West African Drums and Dance Ensemble in Austin Texas.  It is one of the more renowned events in the drumming industry.  After returning to Hong Kong. Anna led her jazz group Renfrew Group touring in South Asia, including Hong Kong Arts Festival 2012, Hong Kong International Jazz Festival, Beishan International Jazz Festival (Zhuhai, China) and Tai Chung International Jazz Festival.  Besides performing, Anna also arranged and composed percussion music for various scale percussion ensembles.
