Synopsis
The word "Paradise" originates from "Pairi-daeza" in Old Avestan, meaning "enclosed garden" or "orchard protected by walls" in the sense of "paradise". Its etymology connects to concepts of surrounding walls and enclosures. Over time, the term evolved in Assyrian, Greek, and Hebrew, indicating "expansive walled gardens," "parks for animals," and “royal parks.” The evolution of the term "Paradise" not only highlights the physical attributes of enclosed spaces but also reflects the broader cultural significance of control and domination over nature and animals throughout history. The process of globalization also reflects this phenomenon. Modernity not only accompanies the flow of goods and capital but also involves the global transplantation of a whole set of "biopolitical" blueprint that "disciplines" life and manages space. This performance will employ artistic technology to explore how power writes order through planning space and classifying life, and how these inscribed orders sediment into the urban landscapes and cultural psyche we take for granted today.
