Synopsis

Hong Kong indie singer-songwriter Esther Wu's new EP "Mirotopia" is out now—four Cantonese and English tracks that glide through the nuanced space between jazz and pop. The title fuses "Mirror" with "Utopia," inspired by philosopher Michel Foucault's theory of "Heterotopia"—real spaces that exist yet sit apart from everyday order, quietly unsettling our familiar social frameworks through mirrors and reversals.

"Freedom and Control"—the two ends of jazz, and where "Mirotopia" begins. Through four characters and four narratives, the EP captures the essence of heterotopia through music and visuals: allowing the "abnormal" to seep into ordinary scenes, reflecting a hidden reality beneath the surface. The EP weaves together our experiences, desires, fears, and hopes from the subconscious, like a dream, reshaping how we see the world.

At the show, we'll perform music from the EP, alongside Cantonese songs in jazz arrangements, Jazz standard covers, and brand new works never heard before. Come feel the music breathe—and the life that grows from it.

See you there!
